Tamlyn Tomita, Chair of CAPA21, the AANHPI political action committee, announced CAPA21’s endorsement of Deja Foxx in the special election for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.
The special election will fill the vacancy created by Congressman Raúl Grijalva’s passing on March 13. Deja is running in the Democratic primary on July 15. The winner of the primary is expected to win the September 23 special election for the deeply blue district.
Deja Foxx is a 25-year-old leader and activist. She would be the first Filipina American elected to Congress. Raised by a single mom in Tucson, Arizona. As a free lunch kid in public schools, her family relied on SNAP benefits, Section 8 housing, and Medicaid to make ends meet. Now she is running to be the first Gen Z woman elected to Congress in the upcoming special election for the open seat in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District because families like hers deserve a fighter in the halls of power.
