CAPA21 Endorses President Biden and Vice President Harris for Re-Election

The CAPA21 AAPI political action committee endorsed President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for re-election.

The Biden-Harris Administration understands the needs of AA and NHPI communities by advancing policies that promote equity, reducing barriers to accessing federal services and programs, and centering the experiences and resiliency of AA and NHPIs.

In January, the Administration released the first-ever National Strategy to Advance Equity, Justice, and Opportunity for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) Communities.

The new strategy has action plans prepared by 32 federal agencies—including all 15 executive departments in the President’s Cabinet—and builds on the Administration’s broader equity agenda and details much-needed investments in AA and NHPI communities and priorities, including data disaggregation, language access, and combatting anti-Asian hate.

President Biden nominated Julie Su to serve as Secretary of the Department of Labor. Julie is a tested and experienced leader, who will continue to build a stronger, more resilient, and more inclusive economy that provides Americans a fair return for their work and an equal chance to get ahead.

The Biden-Harris Administration’s other achievements include:

Passing historic legislation to tackle the climate crisis and reduce costs for millions of Americans.
Bringing Democrats and Republicans together to invest in our infrastructure.
Beating Big Pharma and slashing the cost of insulin and other prescription drugs for seniors.
Nominating and winning confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson — the first Black female Justice — to the Supreme Court.
Helping create more than 12 million jobs in the process.

Now, it is time to help Joe and Kamala finish the job. For as much as we’ve gotten done together over the past two years, there’s unfinished business on the American agenda.

President Biden Nominates Julie Su for Secretary of Labor

President Biden announced his intent to nominate Julie Su to serve as Secretary of the Department of Labor. Julie is a tested and experienced leader, who will continue to build a stronger, more resilient, and more inclusive economy that provides Americans a fair return for their work and an equal chance to get ahead.

On February 10, 2023, CAPA21 sent a letter to President Biden endorsing Su for Labor Secretary, writing: “In addition to Deputy Secretary Su being supremely qualified to serve as Secretary of Labor, her appointment and confirmation would fill the glaring absence of an Asian American Pacific Islander in your Cabinet, an exclusion that we did not have the shame of experiencing in the past four Administrations and for more than 20 years. Even Donald Trump included an AAPI in his Cabinet.”

In the White House announcement, President Biden stated:

It is my honor to nominate Julie Su to be our country’s next Secretary of Labor. Julie has spent her life fighting to make sure that everyone has a fair shot, that no community is overlooked, and that no worker is left behind. Over several decades, Julie has led the largest state labor department in the nation, cracked down on wage theft, fought to protect trafficked workers, increased the minimum wage, created good-paying, high-quality jobs, and established and enforced workplace safety standards.

Julie is a champion for workers, and she has been a critical partner to Secretary Walsh since the early days of my Administration. She helped avert a national rail shutdown, improved access to good jobs free from discrimination through my Good Jobs Initiative, and is ensuring that the jobs we create in critical sectors like semiconductor manufacturing, broadband and healthcare are good-paying, stable and accessible jobs for all.

I look forward to continuing to work with Julie to build an economy that works for working people, and I respectfully ask the Senate to take up this nomination quickly so that we can finish the job for America’s workers.
