CAPA21 Asian American PAC Endorses Xavier Becerra and Betty Yee for Governor of California

CAPA21 (capa21.com), a political action committee serving the AANHPI community, announced its endorsement of Xavier Becerra and Betty Yee for Governor of California, citing their extensive experience in government as the best candidates to reduce the cost of living for Californians and fight back against the corrosive policies of the Trump regime.

Tamlyn Tomita chairs CAPA21, which includes co-founder Dale Minami and political veterans Maeley Tom and Ginger Lew on its leadership team. CAPA21 started in 2014, but has roots in the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans, founded in 1987 as one of the country’s first Asian American PACs.

As California faces a pivotal moment in its history, CAPA21 stands with Secretary Becerra and former State Controller Yee as proven leaders whose careers have been defined by a commitment to expanding opportunities, creating a California and a country inclusive of all, and fighting for economic, racial, health, and environmental justice.

“Xavier Becerra is a relentless champion who has never backed down from a fight for justice,” said Tamlyn Tomita, Chair of CAPA21. “From his time in Congress to his tenure as California’s Attorney General, where he filed over 100 lawsuits to protect Californians from federal overreach, to his leadership as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, where he defended the Affordable Care Act and led the nation through a global pandemic, Xavier has consistently stood up for the vulnerable and delivered results for our families.”

“Betty Yee has a record defined by a fierce commitment to standing up for what’s right,” said Tamlyn Tomita. “As California State Controller, Betty used the full power of her office to champion economic justice for working people and defend our environment and natural resources. As the only AANHPI major candidate in the gubernatorial race, Betty is a role model and a success story, embodying the strength of our diverse AANHPI communities that make up approximately 18 percent of the state.”

CAPA21 strongly encourages Californians to engage in the gubernatorial race immediately by signing up for updates at bettyyee.com and xavierbecerra2026.com. We are seeing establishment corporate gatekeepers trying to prevent voters from learning about the full field of candidates, as we saw last month in Los Angeles with the attempt by USC and ABC7 to censor Betty, Xavier, and all major candidates of color from a televised debate, which was aborted at the last minute due to pressure from the Becerra, Yee, and other campaigns.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of CAPA21, which continues a strong legacy of advancing political empowerment for AANHPI communities,” said Becerra. “California is a state built by immigrants and dreamers. As Governor, I will continue to fight for the working families who are the backbone of our state, ensuring that the doors of opportunity remain open for everyone, regardless of where they come from or what language they speak.”

“I’m proud to receive CAPA21’s endorsement, which says to me that the 18 percent of Californians who are AANHPI deserve to have representation in this race,” said Yee. “During my time as State Controller, I prioritized unimpeachable competence and accountability, using the power of my office to champion economic justice for working people. I look forward to bringing that same fierce commitment to the Governor’s office.”
