CAPA21 (capa21.com), a political action committee serving the AANHPI community, announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Doris Matsui for California’s 7th Congressional District, representing Sacramento.
Tamlyn Tomita chairs CAPA21, which includes co-founder Dale Minami and political veterans Maeley Tom and Ginger Lew on its leadership team. CAPA21 started in 2014, but has roots in the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans, founded in 1987 as one of the country’s first Asian American PACs.
Tamlyn Tomita, Chair of CAPA21: “CAPA21 is proud to endorse Congresswoman Matsui. Born in a Japanese American incarceration camp, she has lived injustice, and doesn’t need to read about it from a textbook. That history gives her the moral clarity and relentlessness that our district needs right now, when so many families are scared by the horrors of the Trump Administration. Congresswoman Matsui has delivered billions for Sacramento’s flood protection infrastructure and billions more for roads and public transit. That’s money in the ground, protecting our families and our economy. This is a moment in history that demands experience, not a learning curve. Congresswoman Matsui knows what’s at risk, personally and politically, and she knows how to fight and win.
Congresswoman Matsui: “I’m grateful to CAPA21 for its endorsement. It’s critical that the voices of AANHPI voters be heard in this election and that our communities have a seat at the table in positions of power at every level of government. CAPA21’s work to build AANHPI civic power and ensure our communities are engaged and empowered is exactly the kind of organizing that makes legislators more effective and more accountable to the people we represent.”
