The CAPA21 political action committee serving the AANHPI community proudly endorses Eric Chung for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, a critical swing district with an open seat in the metro Detroit region that includes portions of Macomb County and Oakland County.
CAPA21 is chaired by Tamlyn Tomita. Its leadership includes co-founder Dale Minami and political veterans Maeley Tom and Ginger Lew. The CAPA21 PAC started in 2014, but has roots in the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans, which was founded in 1987 as one of the country’s first Asian American PACs.
Chung’s campaign has demonstrated impressive momentum, breaking records for the district by raising over $1,850,000 prior to the primary election. This formidable operation puts his campaign in a position to connect with voters across the competitive district, which was decided by a mere 1,600 votes the last time the seat was open in 2022.
“The son of immigrants from Vietnam, a former teacher, and a constitutional lawyer, Eric is running to serve the people of Michigan’s 10th Congressional District with the deep conviction that every Michigan family deserves the same shot at the American Dream,” said Tamlyn Tomita, CAPA21 Chair. “CAPA21 endorses Eric because he will work every day in Congress to lower costs, protect Michigan jobs, and make sure working families have a real voice in Washington.”
Eric’s first love was teaching, working as a tutor in high school, getting his teaching license at Harvard and then teaching civics to 4th graders. After seeing his students struggle to learn because of economic challenges beyond their control, he decided to take the fight into the policy arena. He went on to Yale Law School and became an attorney with a drive for taking on the powerful and standing up for what’s right – like bringing cases on behalf of children sickened by lead-contaminated water, and fighting for veterans unfairly denied benefits they’d earned. Eric also worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee to advise on the confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, and with the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice to ensure fairness and opportunity in education.

Chung has built an impressive coalition, securing endorsements from 16 Members of Congress, including U.S. Senator Andy Kim and U.S. Representatives Judy Chu, Grace Meng, and Mark Takano, as well as AAAFund, ASPIRE PAC, and AAPI Victory Fund.
